The homeowner's laptop ignited during recharging because of a faulty battery. Unfortunately, the fire and smoke damage to this lovely two-story home in Sandy Springs were extensive. The lower level received structural damage including charred studs, many burnt building materials, and belongings. The meeting with the insurance adjuster and our operations manager and loss coordinator was the initial step in the restoration and rebuild process. We waited on the Contents Adjuster to inspect and give us the okay to begin the heavy lifting--the huge cleanup and restoration. To mitigate smoke damage, we did set up air scrubbers and axial box fans to vacate as much of the acidic, noxious fire by-products of combustion as possible. These dry smoke and oily soot particulates rapidly degrade all surfaces, including fabrics, upholstery, porous drywall, metals, and even glass. Our intermediate action was appreciated by our customer.
